Watch for one trap in particular. Firms
often get most of the way through implementation, then stall when work piles up and settle for "good enough." The last stretch never lands, and they start papering over the cracks with workarounds. All that does is swap one set of problems for another. If you've chosen well, finish the job – the return on investment is in that
final stretch.
Get up to speed, then
keep up momentum
If there’s one last thing to remember, it’s training. Ask your vendor what’s available.
There’s a good reason that training’s come up for the second time in this guide: if you buy new software and then don’t keep up to date with it, then you’ve wasted your money. New features will get added, you’ll be paying for them, but you won’t be using them.
Meanwhile, it’s inevitable that staff in your firm will come and go. The knowledge you’ve built up during the software implementation process has a shelf life for this reason.
So, make sure at least one person in the firm remains responsible for training people in your practice management software – and for keeping everyone on top of what’s new.
